Road Log and Science

I was able to get some quality time in Illustrator to start developing a framework for the Road Log (Cargo) and Science (Sailors) in support of a Lava version of a Voyages Community Map.

A lot of this is because Voyages released their “Assets Pack” as open source for us to create more community maps.

Science

In Science, you gather "data" and "proof" instead of sailors and heroes. Data will be a phone call to a geology grad student, and proof will be a fax sent to you from a scientist. The idea is to use your insider knowledge to help predict and warn people of the volcanic vent and its flows. But you are still a dropout, so it takes work to make those phone calls or find a place to fax.

Road Log

In the Road Log, you'll drive your AMC Gremlin to locations to warn somebody, but you'll only get points if 1) you have enough Science and 2) you've alerted the media (e.g. TV station, blimp or world-of-mouth). The first time you visit a location you can circle it if you have a minimum amount of Science, but you don’t score any points. If you have convinced a media outlet there's a lava flow, then when you revisit a location or visit a new one, you'll get those Media Value points. 

You'll get the Media Value in the Media (Duties) section, which I haven't worked digitally on yet but I have some ideas. It will be more difficult to convince a TV or radio station than to fly a plane with a trailing banner, but doing so will amplify your message of danger to the general population of a nearby lava flow.
